Greetings all, I am so happy to report that after a rebuild of some very nasty carbs, bike sat with prev owner for 8 years....the bike started at the first crank!! She idles great, but when I open the throttle it spits and back fires. I am pretty sure the problem is because there is a port on both carbs that aren't connected to anything that I think I may have to cap, this is what I need help identifying.

I know the largest one on the top of the carb is the atmospheric vent for the slide.

The port in question is on the opposite side of the carb from the fuel inlet and appears to be 1/4"

I will be using a manual petcock so I have capped both carb holders, and I am removing AIS/MCV. Does this mean I can just cap these ports too?

Thanks,

Dave

OK I am pretty certain these were the point of air injection from the AIS so I am capping them.

yes.. cap them.. but cap the with good caps from the dealership, those thin little ones from napa or someplace wont last.. also wrap them with a zip tie to keep them from coming off in case you backfire...

going to the fuel inlet??Do you mean the petcock? That is the vacuum line from the carb holder that tells the petcock to deliver fuel. You want this one attached. If you have two petcocks, there will be one from each carb holder, or manifold. The ports going to and from the AIS you can cap off.

Nono, im going manual petcock, so no need for the vacuum ports, you were right when you said to cap them off because they were the AIS ports, i lost the pictures i took when I took all the hoses off so I was having a hard time figuring what went where.
