#1: Question Xv 750 Throttle Stuck (SOLVED) Author: TommyGunn Post Posted: Sat Jun 19, 2010 1:09 pm

My throttle seems to have relocated its position. When I start it goes wide open and it isn't against the idle adjustment screw. Its about a half inch away with no obstruction keeping it there! Anyone know what could be causing this?

Your cable probably needs lubed. That would get you by for a while, but I'd change it soon. Chances are, if it's binding in the housing, it's pretty rusty with a couple of stands of cable broken or nearly so.

I have lubricated it about a month ago and everything was fine then. It just started today.

The cable could be frayed, which would cause it to hang up. It only takes a couple of broken stands of cable to do that.

Unhook cable from carb and see if carb linkage returns to normal position.

The exterior part of the cable come out of the bracket thats on the carb. Does the handle bar bracket control the pressure to keep it in the other bracket on the carb?

Don't quite understand what you mean. If you remove cable from carb.

And linkage returns to normal stop position then carb throttle return spring is working and cable is hanging up.

The exterior part of the cable at the carb pulled out of the bracket that it passes thru. The rest is still hooked hooked up. The top of your picture.

As mentioned previously you need to disconnect the cable at the carb and see if the linkage goes back to the throttle stop.

If it does there is something wrong with your cable, you are best off replacing it.

If it doesn't the spring on the carb linkage is likely the problem or there is something physically stopping the assembly from returning back to the closed position.

a kinked cable cover caused that problem on my bike...make sure that your cable cover [sheath] is free

OK, the cable sheath where cable comes out, that little tip moved out of the hold down bracket at the carb. Bringing the cable with it, to leave the throttle open. There is no kinks in the cable and it has returned to its proper position. My only question now is the only place of adjustment to the throttle cable is at the handle bars right? Sorry for not knowing some of the terminology.

You should have 10 to 15 degrees play in the throttle at the throttle grip, that is adjusted at the handle bar.

Are you saying that the cable is now removed from the carb, but the lever on the carb is still off the stop? If this is the case, the return spring on the carb is bad or something has gotten into the linkage between the carbs and is binding the linkage.

Yes Jake! Its back to the way the picture is! I never had to take the cable end out of the carb. Its just the end of the sheath kept the throttle from closing.
