Yup, a real quick question: What replacement bulb for my 1983 xv750 virago?

I searched on this forum, searched in Google, and my shop manual. zero success.

I found a link on ebay that says an h4, hb2, and a 9003 may fit, but to check my bike first. WTF?!?! lol.

Are those three bulbs the exact same? Why are there 3 different bulbs that would fit our bikes? Which one is the better style?

I did read that in the newer viragos the sylvania silver star ultras worked well, is this still the case with my old bike?

Thanks for any help!!

H4, 9003/HB2 are all the same bulb, just different numbers.

this explains it all.

curious, after doing some research on the 'net, people are not liking the silverstar ultra's because of the short lifespan. They have instead been recommending the GE nighthawk platinum or the phillips night vision. I have also saw that GE makes a motorsports H4, but it is inexpensive so I doubt it is any good..

Thoughts?

hmmmm,,,dunno what they mean.
my last Ultra went 3 years.
while not a "life-time", it's still pretty decent life span.

well, guess it was the bulbs "life-time". Laughing

I may do some objective research on this because I work nights and ride to work as much as possible so I want all the light I can get for those loose-roaming-critters.

3 years?? that works for me! I think maybe in an auto they dont last as long...

I found on a ford explorer website, and a honda civic website that people were only getting 2-6 months out of the bulbs.

But, it makes sense that bikes are not ridden as much, so it would be worth the investment to get a highpower bulb to see the most out of only one bulb, and if it lasts a whole season then it is money well spent, huh? ;o)

Let me know what your research turns up! (pretty please?)

I got a pretty good deal on that sylvania silverstar ultra bulb from advance autoparts, so Im gonna throw it in and see what happens!
I figure that everyone on here is using it without a problem, so they cant be all that bad! ;o)

I've used sylvania silverstars in my semi truck. The rating was 80/100 so it was almost like driving with the brights on all the time. The bulbs lasted less than 90 days. Tried a second set, same thing.
Put in cool blues and they lasted about 6 months.
Never did find a bulb that lasted as long as factory.
