So, here's the deal, I bought a harley road king switch thinking "three wires" easy. From the best I can tell from the one wiring diagram I was able to track down, the center on the switch is the 12v feed and the post to the right is the headlight wire. I don't remember what the brown wire is but I figure it goes on the other post. Anywho, I took the ignition apart at first to look at how it worked and while I had it out I touched the wires over the connections on the disc and cranked her up. So when I got done I clipped the center post to the red wire, right side to the blue and left to brown. I don't know what I did but it blew the main fuse and at the time I didn't have my keys (36 month old children hide everything) so I don't know if I crossed something wrong or what.

how does the switch work?
how many turns does it make?
and does it turn the left and right or just to the right?
my switch has 3 terms. on the back. it turns to the right 2 times.
the terms on the back are at about 11:00 oclock, 1:00 o clock and 3:00 oclock..at the 11:00 is my battery feed.. the 1:00 ( 1 turn of the key) feeds my coils, TCI and starter solenoid... 3:00 (2nd turn of the key) feeds accessories.....
that said what fuse box are you using. if it is the stock fuse box you may have to rewire that also.....dan

Two turns, one to the right just like the stock switch, and one to the left. Off is 12 o'clock and the turns are about 1 and 11.

from center to the left will be accessories..
from center to the right will be power..
run your battery fused wire to the center post. then get a test light and turn the switch and see which post lights up and use that post for power.
you will not be able to use the acc. part of the switch with the factory fuse box.. and relays...
stock ignition has 3 wires 1 12v feed and 2 feed the fuses. you may have to splice the 2 wires to 1 term......dan

Well I went out today and with new fuses tried again. I don't know what I did the other day, but today I hooked the red wire to the center, the brown wire to the right, and the blue wire to the left. Everything works, when I turn the switch CW everything comes on correctly and the headlight waits til she's cranked and when I turn it CCW the parking lights come on. Dunno what the deal was the other day, maybe the PO did some funky wire changes or I just read the diagram wrong. Probably the later, thanks Dan :)
