#1:  Difficulty finding neutral. (SOLVED) Author: wyllow Post Posted: Sun Aug 22, 2010 8:41 am

I haven't had much luck searching for an answer to this on the forum but I guess he answer could well be here already. My partner's 2004 XV250 has this problem: With the engine off - no trouble getting into neutral. Engine running but cold - can usually find neutral. If the engine is up to operating temperature - not much hope of getting it into neutral. I thought it might be a clutch problem but the clutch isn't 'dragging' when the bike is in gear. I always check the oil and change it regularly.
Hope someone has the answer.

When my bike gives me these symptoms I can tighten he clutch adjustment a little and everything works fine. You might try that.

do the clutch adjust, and maybe clean/lube shift linkage too.

Thanks for the quick replies. Will tighten the clutch a little more and see how it goes.

here's a link for a manual. they can come in handy. Laughing

give it a look, then do a full clutch adjustment. (side case & lever)
see if that doesn't help.
