Addressing the age old problem with the '81 750 starting demons...if you find your #2 idler gear worn on the
engagement side and are afraid to reshape the teeth yourself or cannot afford to replace it, simply turn it over.
DOUBLE CHECK your clearance because various stages of wear on your particular gear could cause you to
throw it through the engine casing. I've yet to hear of that happening and the measurements were exact in my
instance. I cannot claim this tip as an original idea, it was passed along to me by a new acquaintance named
'ChopperBob'. It worked great in my instance. As well should you need to replace any parts for the 1981 XV
